Host – bread used at Mass.

​

Jesus – Son of God and of Mother Mary.

​

Altar – table in the Sanctuary of the Church from where the Priest consecrates the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.  

​

Priest – a holy man of the Church that has received extraordinary gifts from God to celebrate Mass.

 

Chalice – a sacred cup that holds wine at the Eucharist.

​

Tabernacle – a container in the Church that holds any Eucharist that are not used at Mass. It's usually found behind the altar.

 

Crucifix – is a cross with the crucified Jesus on it.

 

Gospel -  the good news of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. The four Gospels are named Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

 

Mass – is whenever we gather to listen to the Word of God, watch and pray as the priest turns the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ and promise to go and do God’s work in the world. 

 

Sanctuary – the part of the Church where the altar and tabernacle are found.

 

Nave – the part of the church that has pews and kneelers for people to sit.

 

Blessing – God’s love and protection given to us by others.

 

Consecration – to make holy. 

 

Genuflect – to kneel or bow, usually in front of the Tabernacle because Jesus is present inside.

 

Confessional – a room where the Priest listens to our sins and then through him gives us God’s forgiveness.

 

Sacrament – an outward sign of God’s love for us.
